Ever since I can remember, I have been surrounded by cameras and photographs. Both of my grandfathers loved photography, but for my maternal grandfather, photography was a lifestyle, a passion and a source of income. He was very adept at photography and working in a darkroom. His vintage camera collection is still one of the most comprehensive I have ever seen. My father was also an avid photographer, working in advertising as one of South Africa's first commercial digital photographers.
I followed my talent and passion for photography by attending the National School of the Arts in Johannesburg, then going on to become a first-generation college graduate with a bachelor’s degree from the University of the Witwatersrand, majoring in drawing, printmaking and photography. I later became an art educator at one of South Africa's top schools and a digital photography lecturer at the College of Digital Photography. In 2023, I earned an MFA in Photography from Savannah College of Art and Design.
